About Me

I've been working with websites on-and-off for the past 8 years, when the only two browsers to code for were Internet Explorer and Netscape.

My first website was an extremely basic website, consisting of a few images, and cut-and-paste JavaScript hosted on the free Homestead service. When I got into my VCE years, I ramped up my self-teaching by beginning to work with the server side language PHP.

Working with PHP and MySQL, I have created several projects in my own time, from a customised homepage service, to a personal homepage with a blog. During my VCE years, I created an automated web hosting application, for a web hosting company I currently help with, called Liway Hosting.

After taking a few years out from school to work, I decided it was time to turn my hobby that I have a passion for, and love doing, into a self rewarding career.

Improving My Skills

In 2008 I started my Diploma of Information Technology, specialising in Website Development. In this course, I was able to brush up on the basics of PHP, and begin furthering my PHP skill set with Frameworks, and Object Orientated Programming.

Not only did I learn more about programming, I also learned about how much more to web application development there is, with other skills such as project management, information gathering, and system design. During my last semester of my Diploma, I was fortunate enough to work with the Australian Red Cross, to create a web application to help them better respond to emergency situations, such as bushfires and natural disasters.

I am now applying the skills I have learnt, with the web applications I am currently developing as my own personal projects, and for clients.

Keeping the Passion Alive

I can spend hours upon hours in-front of a computer, coding away, as long as I've got some music to listen to whilst I'm in 'the zone'. I regularly check internet forums, and I've always got a web project I'm working on.

One thing that really keeps my passion for web development alive is my constant thirst for information. I love learning new techniques, and new technologies. I was an early adopter of the Apple iPhone, and quickly started making my first iPhone web application after the release of the iPhone 3G in Australia. Now with Android phones, cloud computing becoming more common, and HTML5 on the horizon, I'd love to start making feature rich web applications.

Developing for the future

I'm a big fan of making things more centralised and simpler for the end user. I am a big embracer of the web2.0 revolution, and reflect this in the applications I am working with. From integrating new technologies such as AJAX, to better looking web pages with CSS and JavaScript Frameworks, I am expanding my skillset every day to work on making the internet more user friendly.

Where I'd like to be

I am constantly looking to expand my knowledge of the internet, and the technology powering it. I want to learn more about the development lifecycles, and the processes involved in creating web-applications. I would love to start using more frameworks (client side and server side), and I think the best way to learn something is to dive head first into it.

I'm looking for a Junior PHP Web Application developer position in the Melbourne South East, or CBD districts. If you think you've got a funky dynamic work atmosphere, taking on web applications that run on PHP, then I would love to hear from you!

I encourage you to take a look at my portfolio, or contact me if you would like any more information.
